Java SE (Special Edition) Development Kit, also known as JDK, is a powerful and comprehensive software platform that ensures you all the tools needed for development and deployment of Java-based applications on desktops, servers and other embedded environments.
The Java platform offers one space to create software for numerous operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Linux and Mac OS X distributions. While the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) enables you to execute Java programs, components or applets, the Java Development Kit (JDK) offers a full set of features for programmers to create, run, debug and even report the Java code.

Hey tontino, i think that every companies should be just be banned from coding in java!
tontito reviewed v7 Build b19 on Sep 1, 2007
Just a small note:
The programs run faster or slower depending in how good it was coded, same applies for other languages.
What i have seen with java is that there are lots of bad coders giving java a bad reputation.
This also applies for big companies codding.
Some people/companies should be just be banned from coding in java!
Kind regards

OpenOffice is mostly written in C++. Only minor parts (such as database support) is coded in Java.

Su need to make Java slimmer, and did not eat too much resources.
including applications which build using Java.
Such as OpenOffice.org which many people complains that it is Slow.

I am wondering, is this also usable for end-users? As the java 6 runtime? I think the description here on betanews is a bit lacking in clearity...
Sharp_Rulez reviewed v7 Build b17 on Aug 2, 2007
I think the way the Title has been written is misleading:
It is 'Java SE Development Kit (JDK) 7 build b17 for Windows' and not a Java Se Development Kit (JDK) for 'Windows 7 b17' (as we may notice the next vesion of windows is called 'Windows 7').
Tene reviewed v7 Build b04 on Dec 26, 2006
utomo, it's _far_ from entering beta.
utomo reviewed v7 Build b04 on Dec 25, 2006
Yes, Java become better now.
Unfortunatelly the version number change are too fast, just after the version 6 released not long time ago. we already get the version 7 beta.
Even the www.OpenOffice.org which developed by sun and the community still not use version 6 yet, they already offer the version 7 beta.
I think better if they keep the version number same first, maybe such as 6.1 or something like that. (with the compatibility of course)
If not the programmer will not use new version, because they did not want to much changes in short time, in their developed software.
just my 2c

Java Development Kit Java Se 8
Far from being a dead language, Java is enjoying a rebirth. It is soon to GPL'd (or equiv license) so will only become more popular. i am a c# developer but Java can run in places that .Net can't live. We use Java in these cases (which seems to happen more and more often). Java 7 needs polish but is a solid performer. the build once, run anywhere paradigm is absolute gold for developers. Role on the final version!
